I enjoy researching and planning trips quite a bit. Since, I often travel by myself I always take months to thoroughly read blogs, travel forums and the like about my destination/s to ensure that I can enjoy my trip and be safe.

Planning for Serengeti

I will be exploring bits and pieces of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. These are some of the things I am doing and have done as I prepare for this particular trip:

  • see how much others have spent to do some of the things I want to do such as a safari to The
    Serengeti…
  • made a budget and ensure that it is realistic
  • read the individual wikitravel page for each destination – knowledge is power
  • check where I may need a visa for and relevant costs
  • made an itinerary
  • read the forums on Trip Advisor, Lonely Planet and some independent blogs on each country and
city I am planning to visit
  • talked to friends who have lived in that region and others there
  • googled bus companies, airlines and trains that go from place to place and related costs
  • spent hours on booking.com reading reviews about properties, cross referencing these on other
sites and then booking a hotel in each place I will visit
  • looked at good travel insurance options (I will blog about this separately once i make a
    choice)
  • get malaria tablets (my gp here will source these)
  • read many websites that offer safaris and ultimately choose one (another blog post in the
    making)
  • get bug spray
  • make a list and keep checking it
  • I am looking forward to doing my second safari and fulfilling a long standing dream of seeing the migration in The Serengeti. Let’s hope the animals cooperate.

It is a pretty long way from Japan and not cheap but life is for living right? I am most looking forward to being on the African continent again. It evokes a feeling I just can’t put into words. I am incredibly blessed to be able to gift myself this… I can’t wait to get there, it’s been a long time coming.
